About us

Three brothers. One direction.

Keystone21 is an initiative of Bertrand, Edwin and Alexander van Leersum. The fund focuses purely on financial return. The driving force behind it is social impact.

Mission and vision

Our vision

This is what drives us. We believe that financial return and social impact do not have to exclude each other. That is why we are building Leerions: a Social Impact Office that invests on the basis of social impact, not on the basis of financial results. Leerions will become a self-sustaining financial engine, an evergreen fund that continuously reinvests its returns. That way it can keep contributing to social initiatives on its own strength, without financial restrictions and without depending on donations.

This is how we put that idea into practice. An impact fund can only exist if there are sufficient resources. We build those resources by combining our expertise: years of experience with Bitcoin and technical analysis, with venture capital and fund management, and with entrepreneurship and controlled business operations. That combination formed the basis for Keystone21: a fund focused purely on financial return, with Bitcoin as its primary asset.

A double motivation to make it a success. Every good result of Keystone21 also brings us a step closer to our social goal. The principle is fixed: participants benefit as well, and are never worse off. The contribution to Leerions comes exclusively from the founders' profit.

Our mission

"Keystone21 achieves the highest possible financial return for its investors and uses the founders' result to build Leerions: a lasting source of funding for social impact."

The name: Keystone21

A keystone is the top stone of an arched bridge: the stone that holds the arch together and lets the bridge carry its load. Keystone21 is our keystone for moving from financially driven investments to socially driven investments. The number 21 refers to the 21 million bitcoins that will ever exist at most.

The name tells the whole story. The investment opportunity. And the investment purpose.

Two goals, one direction

How the goals reinforce each other.

Investors come first

The participants' return always comes first. The contribution to Leerions has no influence on the investment policy, the fund's assets or the participants' return.

The founders earn when you earn

The founders' result comes through the performance fee. It only arises when the fund performs well for participants, and only above the High Water Mark.

At least 50% to Leerions

At least half of the profit the founders receive from Keystone21 is used to grow Leerions and its social investments.

An extra reason to perform

Because the success of Keystone21 contributes directly to the social goal, the motivation goes beyond financial gain alone. That calls for a long-term attitude, discipline and full commitment.
